ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan has formally taken up with India the matter of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) youth Zeeshan Mir, who was detained by Indian authorities after reportedly crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into the Uri sector of Indian occupied Kashmir, AAJ News reported.
According to sources, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has contacted the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and sought official confirmation of Zeeshan Mir’s arrest.
Pakistan has also requested consular access to the detained youth to ascertain his condition and provide legal assistance if required.
Sources said Pakistan is closely monitoring developments and maintaining diplomatic contact with Indian authorities to obtain further details regarding the case.
Kashmiri youth crosses LoC for love
As per the details, Zeeshan Mir, a resident of Painkadi village in Muzaffarabad, crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into the Uri sector in Indian-occupied Kashmir to meet a woman named Iram Bano, with whom he fell in love.
According to Indian media, on Sunday morning at around 9:30 am, Indian troops stationed in the Silikot area of the Uri sector saw a youth coming towards them from across the LoC, who was apprehended shortly after he entered the occupied Kashmir territory.
During initial questioning, Zeeshan reportedly identified himself using a Pakistani national identity card and told authorities that he had crossed the border to meet a woman named Iram Bano, whom he had met through social media.
According to Zeeshan’s statement, the two first met through social media, after which they kept in touch, and after this online friendship, he decided to cross the border.
A video purportedly showing both Zeeshan and Iram sitting together while being questioned about their identities and background has gone viral on social media.
Indian authorities say that both Zeeshan and Iram are currently being interrogated by various security agencies to ascertain the truth of the young man’s claims.
According to Indian media, the agencies are currently examining the mobile phones and digital messages of both to understand the nature of the conversation between them.
