MAKKAH (Kashmir English): A rare astronomical phenomenon will occur on the day of Eid-ul-Azha this year as the sun is set to appear directly above the Holy Kaaba, an event that last coincided with Eid nearly 33 years ago in 1993.

The phenomenon, known as the “solar zenith” over the Kaaba, takes place twice every year when the sun’s rays fall vertically over the sacred structure in Makkah.

During Sun to align directly above Kaaba, the shadow of every upright object disappears completely, making it possible for people around the world to accurately determine the direction of the Qibla.

Astronomers say that while the sun passes directly above the Kaaba twice annually, its coincidence with Eid-ul-Azha is extremely rare. According to experts, such a combination was last witnessed in 1993, while the next occurrence is expected around 2059.

Experts have clarified that the event is a natural astronomical occurrence rather than a miracle, but its alignment with the holy occasion of Eid gives it special spiritual and symbolic significance for Muslims worldwide.

The unique celestial event is expected to draw the attention of astronomy enthusiasts as well as worshippers across the globe.
