TEHRAN (Kashmir English): Iran has said it has established a new controlled maritime zone to further tighten its control over the Strait of Hormuz, under which passing vessels will require prior permission.
Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority in a post on X said that Iran has established a controlled zone in the Strait of Hormuz.
The authority said that a new maritime boundary line has been set from Umm Al Quwain to Qeshm Island.
Persian Gulf Strait Authority made it clear that any maritime traffic through this area will require contact and permission from the it, which indicates Iran’s strict control over one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps
Earlier, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Cops (IRGC) had announced the establishment of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority as administrative authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Revolutionary Guard stated that after Iran takes over the management of maritime traffic in this waterway, all fiber optic cables passing through the Strait will be under it supervision, permits, and toll fees.
Media reports suggest that the underwater communication network laid in the Strait of Hormuz transmits data for global financial transactions worth over $10 trillion daily.
