MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has decided to establish a Safe City project in all three divisional headquarters in the state.
As per details, the central control room will be established in Muzaffarabad with the cooperation of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
While talking with reporters, Inspector General of Police Captain (retd) Liaquat Ali Malik said that a memorandum of understanding has been prepared between the AJK and Punjab governments for the Safe City project, which will be signed in the next few days.
The implementation of the consultancy task for installing CCTV cameras has started, and the implementation of this project will be possible within a month, the IGP said.
Furthermore, the federal government has approved Rs2 billion for the establishment of the counter-terrorism department (CTD) and the Central Police Office (CPO) Complex, he added.
Malik said that activities have been intensified to utilize the available resources to increase the capacity of the Azad Kashmir police, adding that work is underway on the Elite Force, Cyber Crime Force, and Quick Response Force (QRF).
The IG Police said the police have completed preparations for the general elections, adding that 4,000 to 5,000 additional personnel will be called if necessary.
Regarding the strike of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) on June 9, the Inspector General said that as long as citizens are peaceful during the protest, the police will not take action.
“However, in case of road closures and force, action will be taken according to the law.”
The police chief further said that we are working to ensure the access of the common man to the offices of the Azad Kashmir Police.
