ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Azad Kashmir workers on Tuesday staged a protest against the party’s central leadership over the parliamentary board.
The protest is being led by MLA Chaudhry Maqbool Gujjar, Raja Mansoor, and other leaders. Workers have gathered in a park near the residence of PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
PTI AJK leaders Sardar Israel Qazi, Shumaila Haider, Raja Ilyas, Dr. Sufyan, and Muhammad Iqbal also participated in the demonstration.
The workers raised slogans against the parliamentary board, voicing against the neglect of ideological workers ahead of the Azad Kashmir elections.
The protesters demanded that the party leadership include ideological leaders in the parliamentary board.
The workers have also previously registered a protest against the board, saying that ideological workers are being neglected in the decisions.
The party leader said that the press conference over the mistreatment by the party leadership was postponed two days ago on the assurance of Barrister Gohar.
It was decided to protest after no response from the leadership, despite the passage of two days, the leader said.
PTI AJK Parliamentary Board
Last month, Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, a member of the PTI AJK’s Parliamentary Board, resigned from his position over differences with the party leadership. He has sent his resignation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
In a letter addressed to Barrister Gohar, Iqbal expressed serious reservations about the board members, stating that Imran Khan founded PTI on the principles of justice, rule of law, transparency, and merit.
“These are not just slogans but the foundation of our political identity. Therefore, it is a matter of deep concern that in this situation, the party appears to be deviating from these fundamental principles.”
He said that workers are concerned that their voices are being consistently ignored. Many ideological party members have already raised objections, and it is being seen as a one-sided board.
Chaudhry Iqbal stated that a significant number of members included in the board are themselves prospective candidates in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
“This raises serious questions about impartiality, fairness, and the integrity of the candidate selection process.”
