Govt approves grant of Rs 1042.6m for University of AJK

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has provided a grant of over Rs 1042.6 million to the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), Muzaffarabad, for pensions, salaries, and other expenses.

The notification issued by the Secretariat of Higher Education stated that “President AJK has approved the provision of a one-time additional grant of Rs. 1042.676 million to UAJK Muzaffarabad, on the condition that the expenditure will be implemented in accordance with the rules.”

The amount includes Rs610.63 million for salary and allowance, Rs202.36 million for pension, Rs174.68 million for ad-hoc relief, Rs30 million for 7% increase in pension, and Rs25 million for electricity expense.

On April 23, the AJK cabinet approved the Education Package 2026, which included budget allocations for schools, colleges, and several universities, including AJK University Muzaffarabad.

The cabinet had approved the budget allocation of Rs 2.45 billion for schools and Rs 766.5 million for higher education.

Meanwhile, it also approved a one-time grant of Rs 1042.6 million for the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), Muzaffarabad, and Rs 188.8 million for Bagh University.

Meanwhile, the status of the Women’s University, which earlier only taught girls, is now being changed under the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Women’s University Bagh Amendment Act 2026, and its boys’ campus will be established.
