ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Reports circulating about a sudden spike in HIV cases in Islamabad Capital Territory have been dismissed as misleading.
Authorities clarified that the cited figure of 618 cases represents a cumulative total recorded over the past 15 months and not a recent outbreak.
The government stressed that the trend in the monthly registration of cases has been steady, consistent with what usually occurs.
Based on the figures provided by the authorities, the number of individuals who were registered as new patients did not show any irregular spike: January 2025 (40), February (43), March (41), April (39), May (36), June (31), July (63), August (45), September (52), October (36), November (41), December (31), then January 2026 (41), February (39), and March 2026 (40). The total number of individuals over this period amounts to 618.
Furthermore, it was added that the rise in the numbers is mainly attributed to better diagnostic measures and processes for registering cases. Citizens should not be alarmed because health experts assured the people that there is nothing to worry about and that they should trust only factual news and sources.
