Heavy rain, thunderstorm to hit Pakistan, PMD issues alert

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English):  The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about upcoming severe weather which will bring heavy precipitation and windstorms and thunderstorms and hail to various parts of Pakistan between April 5 and April 9, because a powerful western disturbance will enter the country.

The latest advisory states that the system will first impact Balochistan from the night of April 5, bringing rain, gusty winds, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy downpours in areas including Quetta, Chaman, Ziarat, and Dalbandin through April 7. The coastal areas of Gwadar and Pasni and Ormara will experience rainfall on April 6.

The weather forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa predicts widespread rain and thunderstorms from April 6 to 9 while snowfall will occur in the mountainous areas of Chitral and Swat and Kohistan.

The PMD has issued a warning about heavy rainfall and hailstorms that will occur at multiple locations throughout April 7 and 8, which will create disruptions. Punjab and the federal capital, Islamabad, will experience rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms from April 6 evening through April 9.

The cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi and Faisalabad and Sialkot will experience heavy showers and hailstorms on April 7 and 8. The areas of Sukkur and Larkana and Jacobabad in Sindh are forecast to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms on April 6.

The districts of Karachi and Hyderabad will experience light to moderate rainfall, with the possibility of occasional hailstorms. From April 5 night through April 9, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir will face moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms and snowfall in their mountainous regions.
