Strong earthquake jolts Islamabad, KP, AJK and Punjab cities

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Strong earthquake tremors of magnitude 6.1 were felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other cities across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir on Friday night.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Center of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 6.1 on the Richter scale at 9:13 pm PST, with a depth of 190 kilometers.

The seismic center added that the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan. According to the PMD, the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Chitral, Peshawar, Swat, Shangla, and nearby areas.

As per details, tremors were experienced in Swat, Buner, Chitral, Malakand, Hazara, Swabi, Bajaur, Shangla, Dir Bala, Parachinar, Manshera, Landikotal, Nowshera, and Abbottabad.

In Azad Kashmir, an earthquake jolted the capital city, Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Haveli, Jhelum Valley, Mirpur, Chakswari, Rawalakot, Bhimber, Samahani, and other nearby areas. Cities in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Gilgit, Skardu, Diamar, Hunza, and surrounding areas, also felt the earthquake.

The tremors were also reported in Jhelum, Chakwal, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Jhang, Khanewal, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha, Sialkot, Daska, Chiniot, and other cities in Punjab.

No reports of any loss of life or property have been received so far; however, authorities have advised citizens to remain vigilant and contact them immediately in case of any emergency.
