BEIJING (Kashmir English): Pakistan and China have announced a five-point formula for restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East.

According to Pakistan Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing to review the situation in the Gulf and Middle East region.

According to the statement, both sides jointly presented a five-point formula for establishing peace in the Middle East and Gulf during the meeting.

Peace in Middle East

According to the Foreign Office communiqué, the following points were presented.

Immediate Ceasefire

China and Pakistan called for an immediate ceasefire and urged all-out efforts to prevent the escalation of the conflict. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to be delivered to all war-affected areas, the communiqué urged.

Initiation of Immediate Peace Talks

The sovereignty, territorial integrity, national independence, and security of Iran and the Gulf countries must be protected. Dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to resolving conflicts.

China and Pakistan support the relevant parties in initiating negotiations, with all parties committed to resolving conflicts through peaceful means and refraining from the use or threat of force during peace talks.

Protection of Non-Military Targets

The communiqué said that principle of protecting civilians in military conflict must be fully adhered to.

“China and Pakistan urge parties to immediately cease attacks on civilians and non-military targets.”

“Fully comply with international humanitarian law and cease attacks on critical infrastructure such as energy, water desalination facilities, power systems, and peaceful nuclear infrastructure like nuclear plants.”

Protection of Shipping Routes

The Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are crucial global maritime routes for goods and energy.

“China and Pakistan urge parties to protect vessels and crews stranded in Hormuz, allow swift and safe passage for civilian and commercial vessels, and restore normal maritime traffic through the Strait as soon as possible.”

Supremacy of the UN Charter

“China and Pakistan emphasize the need to promote genuine multilateralism to collectively strengthen the supremacy of the United Nations and support the convening of an agreement for the establishment of a comprehensive peace framework and the achievement of lasting peace based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law.”
