MUZZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has issued a formal notification of the new ‘Amended Transport Policy 2026’ regarding the use of official vehicles and petrol and diesel.
Under this new policy, while a reduction in government expenditure has been claimed, separate norms for petrol consumption have been set for high-ranking officials and the bureaucracy.
Privileges for high-ranking officials
According to the notification, no limit has been set on the use of petrol and diesel for the President of Azad Kashmir, the Prime Minister, ministers, advisors, and special assistants. These officials will be entitled to use jeeps up to 3000cc and cars up to 1800cc.
The monthly petrol and diesel limit for officers of various grades under the new policy is as follows:
- Chief Secretary, IGP, and Grade 21-22 officers: 300 liters monthly.
- Secretaries to the government: 300 liters monthly.
- Heads of departments (Grade 20): 250 liters monthly.
- Additional Secretaries (Grade 19): 200 liters monthly.
- Deputy Secretaries and Grade 18 officers: 120 liters monthly.
Quota for police and district administration
Keeping in mind the administrative needs, a special quota has been kept for field officers:
- Deputy Commissioners and SPs: 400 liters monthly.
- Assistant Commissioners and DSPs: 400 liters monthly.
- Traffic Police Stations: 400 liters per month.
- Other administrative officers at the tehsil level: 100 liters per month.
The notification has clarified that fuel can be obtained separately for trips outside the municipal limits. With the implementation of this new policy, all previous notifications related to petrol and diesel will be considered cancelled.
