ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has started preparing an application to provide petrol subsidy, which is currently in the testing phase.

On the instructions of the federal government, the Ministry of Information Technology (IT) has developed an Petrol subsidy app to provide petrol subsidy, which is currently in the testing phase.

According to sources, subsidy will be given to two- and three-wheelers, but the increase in prices in the global market will be passed on to other consumers.

Sources say that a decision on subsidy up to 800 cc vehicles could not be made, a petrol quota will be allocated for two- and three-wheelers, and a petrol quota of up to 20 liters per month is proposed for motorcycles.

According to sources, nozzles will be allocated for subsidy at 12,000 petrol pumps in the country, 2 mobile phones will be provided at each petrol pump, and petrol will be provided at each petrol pump through a mobile phone app.

Earlier, the federal government has decided to cut the development budget of the current Fiscal Year 2025-26 by Rs 100 billion to provide relief to people amid the rising petrol prices.

According to the sources, the government will not increase the prices of petroleum products; instead, it will manage the financial pressure arising in this regard from the development budget.

The government had proposed to reduce the budget from the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) from Rs 1,000 billion to Rs 900 billion to maintain the prices of petrol and diesel so that the fiscal deficit can be controlled.

The media reports alleged that it is being considered not to increase the price of petrol by Rs 55 and diesel by Rs 75 per liter.

In a statement, the Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal confirmed the decision, saying that this step has been taken to balance the economic pressure and avoid putting the burden of increasing petrol prices on the public.
