WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): Media reports suggest the U.S. administration is considering a diplomatic mission involving Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan, exploring potential “off-ramps” to de-escalate regional tensions in South Asia.

While quoting two senior US administration officials, CNN reported on Wednesday that the Trump administration is working to arrange a meeting in Pakistan this weekend to discuss an off-ramp to the war in Iran.

The plans have Vice President JD Vance and possibly other top administration officials traveling to Pakistan this week.

But the officials cautioned that the timing of the expected trip, the venue and the potential participants, is fluid.

Turkey has also come forward as a potential location for the talks, two sources familiar with the matter said.

Pakistan has acted as a key intermediary in the conflict between the US and Iran, delivering a 15-point plan proposed by Washington to Iran that addresses issues like Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and its ballistic missile program. But Turkey, too, has played a role.

According to one of the US officials, talks regarding the trip are expected to continue at the White House today.

US team for negotiations with Iran

President Donald Trump Tuesday said that Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff are currently leading negotiations with Iran.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, however, said during her media briefing that nothing should be deemed official until it is announced formally by the White House in reply to a question about JD Vance’s visit to Pakistan for Iran talks.
