ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s security forces downed two rudimentary drones at different locations adjacent to Rawalpindi on Friday, security sources said.

Sources said that the Air Defence brought down loitering drones by electronic countermeasures. No loss of life was reported, as the drones were successfully brought down before they could explode.

Later, in a statement, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) confirmed that these rudimentary drones belonged to the terrorist outfit Fitna Al Khawarij, backed by the Afghan Taliban regime.

“Two drones were successfully intercepted by the Pakistan security forces using electronic countermeasures,” the ministry’s Fact Checker account wrote in a post X.

MoIB denies Afghan claims

It further rejected reports claimed by the Afghan Taliban regime that they precisely targeted a military installation near Islamabad, resulting in heavy casualties.

“No military or other infrastructure was hit, other than minor damage due to debris from the forced crashing of drones,” the ministry said.

The statement added that the Taliban regime’s claims include no verifiable evidence, as always.

“However, it fully exposes its established role as Master Proxy of terrorism harbouring and supporting multiple terrorist organisations such as Indian proxies FAK and FAH.”

The Fact Check further mentioned that Taliban official accounts, including the so-called Ministry of Defence account, are known to “regularly proliferate fake news and propaganda”, including recent frivolous claims of shooting down Pakistan Air Force aircraft and capturing of pilots, which they unashamedly later deleted.

PAA ‘rejects’ flight suspension reports

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has ‘rejected’ the reports regarding the closure of airspace and suspension of flight operations at Islamabad airport.

“The circulating news regarding the closure of Islamabad’s airspace is baseless. Islamabad airport is functioning as usual,” the PAA spokesperson said in a statement.

“Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport are continuing uninterrupted and flights are operating according to their schedules,” the authority wrote in a post on X.

Earlier, several reports circulating in the media claimed that the airport authority had suspended flight operations at Islamabad airport for a few hours.

However, the authority clarified that Islamabad airspace and airport operations are continuing and urged that the public should not pay attention to false news.
