PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): Cricket is set to revive in Peshawar after 19 years as the government has decided to host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the provincial apex committee held at Corps Headquarters in Peshawar to review the overall security situation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi, National Security Advisor (NSA), and Corps Commander Peshawar, as well as top civil and military officials.

During the meeting, tributes were paid to the citizens and security personnel martyred in terrorist incidents. It was decided in the meeting that this year’s PSL matches will be held in Peshawar, the statement said.

Furthermore, the meeting also agreed that the provincial government’s governance in Malakand division will be immediately implemented as a model under the supervision of the provincial police and other provincial institutions.

“Later, this successful model will be implemented in the affected districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram, in a phased manner,” it added.

Moreover, it was also decided to form a special sub-committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to effectively monitor all development projects being undertaken in these districts and review any military operations. It will hold review meetings on a monthly basis.

This special sub-committee, headed by the Chief Minister, will include elected public representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary, IG Police, and provincial officials, as well as representatives of federal institutions.

“Complete coordination and common position on important policy issues will be ensured through effective communication between the Federation and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to deal with the important issue of terrorism,” the statement said.

The meeting also decided to continue strict measures against illegal activities like illegal SIM cards, explosives, and extortion. In addition, focus will also be given to phased profiling of non-custom paid vehicles.
