MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Cold weather has tightened its grip once again in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as a new rain system has entered Pakistan.
From last night, heavy snowfall accompanied bylight rainfall has been lashing different areas of Azad Kashmir, whereas the mountains of Neelum and Leepa Valley have once again been covered in a thick white blanket of snow.
According to the details, the rain has been continuing since last night, whereas heavy snowfall continues in the upper areas of Kel Taubat, etc. More than 2/3 inch of fresh snowfall has occurred in Kel and Taubat.
Similarly, light rain is recorded in other areas, including Muzaffarabad, Gilliyat, Neelum, and Leepa Valley, dropping the temperatures significantly.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Light to moderate rain with winds and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hills, is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Potohar region during the next twelve hours.
Roads Closure:
Due to the intensity of snowfall in Leepa Valley, all connecting roads are currently blocked, causing difficulties for commuters.
According to the authorities, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall throughout the day today, which is why the operation to open the road will not be started today.
The administration says that as soon as the weather clears, the work of removing snow from the road will start immediately so that traffic can be restored.
Fortunately, despite the harsh weather conditions in Azad Kashmir, the main roads in several areas, including Muzaffarabad and Neelam Valley, are still open.
According to the details, the main Neelum highway is still open for traffic from Chalhana to Taubat.
The Highway authorities of Leepa Valley have urged tourists and residents to avoid travelling during snowfall due to the possibility of potential landslides and road closures.
