ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a 28-paise per unit increase in electricity prices for February bills, which originated from the December fuel price adjustment.
The increase will affect all customers throughout the country who use K-Electric services, while lifeline users and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations will not face any charges.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a larger increase of 48 paisa per unit, but NEPRA reduced the adjustment after a detailed review. According to the official notification, the 28-paise hike will be reflected in monthly electricity bills starting in February.
NEPRA established its decision as a method to balance the need for increased fuel costs with the requirement to safeguard consumers who require special protection.
The price increase will not affect low-income households who use Lifeline electricity, while the EV charging infrastructure will not face any price increases.
The regulatory authority explained that fuel price adjustments function as a component of NEPRA’s monthly tariff assessment system, which strives to achieve both financial sustainability and power sector transparency.
