Imran Khan underwent eye procedure at hospital following vision concerns: PIMS admin

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Founding chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, 73, was shifted from Adiyala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) late Saturday night for a specialized eye procedure after reporting reduced vision in his right eye, said administration of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Friday.

The medical intervention followed a comprehensive examination at Adiyala Jail by a senior ophthalmologist from PIMS, who diagnosed the PTI founder with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO).

CRVO was reported in the right eye, a condition that causes a blockage in the retinal vein and can lead to permanent vision loss if untreated.

Doctors administered an intravitreal anti-VEGF injection, a standard treatment to reduce swelling and prevent further vision impairment.

The administration in a press release said Imran Khan underwent a complete eye examination by a senior ophthalmologist from PIMS Islamabad at Adiyala Jail due to reduced vision in his right eye.

“The diagnosis confirmed central retinal vein occlusion in the right eye. An intravitreal anti-VEGF injection was deemed necessary at PIMS.”

Imran Khan discharged with post-operative instructions

After obtaining full consent from the patient, the treatment was successfully completed in the operating theatre, it said adding the patient’s condition remained stable, and he was discharged from the hospital with routine post-operative instructions and follow-up.
