MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Textbook Board has banned the purchase and sale of textbooks, allied and supplementary material by the Textbook Board without its prior approval.

In a press release, it has been stated that the Azad Kashmir government has banned the purchase and sale of textbooks without prior approval.

“No individual publisher/institution can issue textbooks for teaching and learning without an NOC.”

It has been observed that some elements were involved in the purchase and sale of textbooks without an NOC to prolong their illegal business, while some publishers were selling textbooks and supplementary material based on obsolete curricula in the market, which is causing educational loss to students.

“Such actions by publishers are tantamount to challenging the state’s writ, which cannot be allowed in any way,” said the order.

Textbook Board warns publishers

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Textbook Board has been discouraging such elements and issues press releases every year to inform the public and warn publishers.

In this regard, all concerned heads of educational institutions and booksellers are informed that they should not use any educational material for teaching and learning that does not have a formally issued NOC.

Before implementing any educational material prepared by any publisher in educational institutions, ensure that this material is approved by the concerned authority.

For the convenience of teachers and booksellers, lists of approved materials from publishers are being prepared at the Textbook Board, which can be obtained free of charge during office hours before the academic session, the board said.

In this regard, the Textbook Board’s raiding teams will inspect book depots across the state and also review private educational institutions in collaboration with the district education administration.

Disciplinary action will be taken against violating educational institutions and booksellers.
