ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan will witness this year’s first supermoon on October 7 (today), the first in nearly a year, following last in November 2024.
The full moon will brighten skies across Pakistan today, according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).
The phenomenon occurs as the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, at a distance of about 361,400 kilometres (224,599 miles).
At this point, the moon will appear roughly 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon.
The SUPARCO further said that when the Moon is seen near the horizon, it may appear even larger due to an optical illusion.
Three more supermoons in current cycle
Three more supermoons are expected in the current cycle, on November 05 and December 05, 2025, and another in early January next year, which will not be part of the 2025 series. On average, each year witnesses three to four supermoons.
