SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): Indian police arrested 15 Kashmiri spectators for not standing during the Indian anthem in Srinagar in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police arrested the spectators during a Police Football Tournament in Srinagar on Tuesday evening after they didn’t stand during the Indian anthem.

Officials said the final of the Police Football Tournament was attended by the New Delhi-installed Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, at the Synthetic Turf Football Ground in TRC, Srinagar.

Indian anthem

As per standard protocol, the Indian anthem was played by a live band during the ceremony. However, officials from Kothibagh Police Station subsequently detained 15 individuals from the spectator stands for failing to rise during the anthem, police said.

Kashmiris, however, maintain that Jammu and Kashmir is a UN-recognized disputed territory and reject Indian attempts to impose its symbols of occupation.

They regard India as an aggressor and illegal occupier whose actions have no legitimacy under international law.
