LONDON (Kashmir English): British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that Britain will recognize Palestinian statehood today.
A foreign news agency reports the British government said the policy was being revised in light of the worsening situation in Gaza, and Britain will declare recognition of a Palestinian state this afternoon.
It must be added that Portugal, too, has officially declared that it recognizes a Palestinian state.
Conversely, Canada and France are two of the other Western nations that have decided to recognize a Palestinian state in the assembly.
Both countries are recognizing a Palestinian state, while Israel is conducting a Palestinian massacre in the Gaza Strip that has been called genocide.
Portugal announced in July that it planned to do so because of the “extremely worrying developments” in the conflict, following the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Israel’s frequent threats to annex Palestinian territory.
Nearly three-quarters of the 193 members of the United Nations already recognize the state of Palestine.
