DELHI (Kashmir English): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials have reportedly decided on an “invincible boycott” of the Pakistan-India clash in the Asia Cup 2025, an Indian newspaper, Dainik Jagran, reported.
The report stated that none of the BCCI officials have reached Dubai, except acting president Rajeev Shukla, who will be the lone BCCI official to attend the high-voltage encounter on Sunday.
The top officials include BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia, and Joint Secretary Rohan Desai.
The decision came amid the growing boycott call of the Pakistan vs India match in the Asia Cup in light of the recent Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor.
The publication added that Shukla will attend because he is also a member of the executive board at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), where he will join Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Cricket Board, and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
“We agreed to the match after getting permission from the government. If we come on camera during the match, then attempts would be made to create an atmosphere against us,” the newspaper quoted the BCCI official.
Many Indian cricket fans, former cricketers, and political groups called for a boycott of the match against Pakistan; however, the Indian government allowed encounters in multilateral events only, clearing the way for India’s involvement in the regional tournament.
Despite the controversies surrounding the game, both teams are set for a blockbuster encounter after winning their first Asia Cup outing with big margins.
