KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Sindh government on Wednesday declared a holiday in schools and colleges in Karachi division on Thursday, August 21, 2025, amid the prevailing severe weather conditions.
The Sindh Education Department said that all public and private educational institutions will remain closed tomorrow due to the heavy monsoon rains forecasted across the city.
The announcement came after the metropolis witnessed intermittent downpours today and yesterday, triggering urban flooding with stranded vehicles along major roads.
The government had also announced a public holiday in the port city today after declaring a rain emergency.
In view of the deteriorating conditions, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court also ordered the closure of all courts in Karachi, including the principal seat and subordinate courts.
Furthermore, flight operations at Jinnah International Airport also remained heavily affected, with several flights suffering delays and cancellations as airline and PIA staff were unable to reach duty stations due to flooding.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had already predicted widespread rain and thunder showers in several districts of Sindh, including Karachi, from August 19 to 22.
