RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Azerbaijan’s Colonel General Karim Valiyev, also the First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday.
During the meeting, discussions were on issues of common interest, with emphasis on the current global and regional security situation.
COAS reaffirmed Pakistan‘s profound fraternal relations with Azerbaijan and reiterated the determination to further strengthen bilateral relations. He also congratulated the visiting dignitary on the successful signing of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The visiting dignitary appreciated the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and victories in Maarka-e-Haq, Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.
The delegation also wished good luck for the forthcoming Independence Day and Victory Celebrations.
COAS thanked the leadership and people of Azerbaijan for joining hands with the people of Pakistan in Maarka-e-Haq and also for deploying the Azeri Contingent for the Independence Day ceremony.
Both military commanders showed an affirmation towards taking defense collaboration forward and encouraging joint endeavors for regional peace and stability.
Field Marshal Asim Munir Confirms Pakistan’s Strong Fraternal Relations with Azerbaijan
On the occasion, Colonel General Karim Valiyev awarded Field Marshal Asim Munir Azerbaijan‘s honourary Patriotic War Medal for “Services in the Field of Military Cooperation“ on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev in honour of his outstanding services in Azerbaijan-Pakistan bilateral military cooperation.
He appreciated Pakistan‘s consistent efforts to counter terrorism and reiterated Azerbaijan‘s resolve to increase cooperation in defence and security. The guest dignitary expressed appreciation for Pakistan‘s hospitable warmth and consistent support of Azerbaijan.
Earlier, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, on his arrival at GHQ, was received with the guard of honour by a turnout contingent of the Pakistan Army. He also planted a floral wreath on the Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
