LOS ANGELES, United States (Kashmir English): The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be conducted in Las Vegas, the 24th-most populous city in the United States, on December 5.
Las Vegas, colloquially referred to as Vegas, is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Nevada and the seat of Clark County. It will play host to the draw of the expanded 48-team event, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, multiple reports said on Tuesday.
Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping, fine dining, entertainment, and nightlife.
48-team FIFA event
ESPN and TUDN’Mexico reported Vegas had been picked for the draw of the expanded 48-team event. In all, 12 groups of four nations will be drawn.
The draw ceremony was also conducted in Las Vegas in 1994 when the United States played host to the global event.
According to ESPN’s original report, The Sphere, a 17,500-seat venue which opened in 2023, is being seen as the front-runner for the draw site.
But Sphere sources claimed that the World Cup draw would not take place there.
In 1994, the draw was staged in Las Vegas even though the city was not a host for any matches. This seems to be the case for next year’s event.
