MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Allegations of nepotism and misuse of government resources have surfaced against Prime Minister Azad Kashmir, Anwarul Haq, for facilitating his relative’s appointment in the public sector.

Sources told Kashmir Digital that in March 2011, Anwarul Haq, then the speaker of AJK Legislative Assembly, appointed his cousin’s husband, Chaudhry Basharat Hussain, to a high-ranking post (PBS 21).

Hussain was recruited on a trial basis for three months, bypassing the recruitment rules and regulations outlined in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Act of 1976.

Over time, Basharat Hussain rose through the ranks and now serves as Secretary of the Assembly in Grade 22.

Sources further allege that Secretary Chaudhry Basharat Hussain is actively involved in the ongoing election campaign of Prime Minister Anwarul Haq, reportedly using official resources to do so.

Kashmir Digital learnt that Chaudhry Basharat is said to be participating in gatherings and overseeing the construction works in the constituency, violating the Azad Kashmir Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1972, which prohibit government employees from participating in political activities.
