ISLAMABAD (Kashmir Digital): The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will introduce electric tram buses in Islamabad, guaranteeing that residents have access to cutting-edge transportation options.
This decision was taken during a meeting, chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad and the Chairman of the CDA, on Thursday.
The tram system’s feasibility study was completed under Randhawa’s direction to enable contemporary bus services on the main routes.
The trams will have more compartments to carry more people, and they will be made accessible for women and those with disabilities.
In-depth talks about implementing a cutting-edge transportation system for Federal Capital residents were held.
According to the chairman, CDA’s major aim is to provide contemporary, effective transportation facilities.
A feasibility assessment that covers the financial, operational, and business models is currently being created, according to the briefing.
The electric bus initiative has already surpassed a daily ridership of 90,000 people, garnering praise from the public due to its eco-friendliness, affordability, and punctuality.
Officers were directed by Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa to complete the feasibility report, with an emphasis on financial sustainability.
He placed a strong emphasis on investigating public-private partnerships and creating a self-sustaining financial strategy.
For the tram project, precise schedules and operational objectives were also set.
The Chairman CDA prioritized high-traffic regions while choosing routes for electric feeder buses based on passenger statistics.
Additionally, he directed the installation of contemporary digital screens at terminals that show schedules, safety instructions, and advertisements.
Smart ticketing systems and in-bus ads will be implemented to increase revenue. Additionally, CDA employees will have access to electric buses.
140 bus stations are being renovated, and more than 200 additional stops will be built with digital boards to generate non-fare revenue, the gathering was informed.
According to Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa, these measures would guarantee a cutting-edge, effective, and environmentally responsible transportation system.
They said they are certain that these initiatives will make Islamabad a cleaner, smarter, and more appealing capital, and that everyone will contribute to this goal.
