MIRPUR (Kashmir English): A high-level meeting was held at the Divisional Headquarters Mirpur under the chairmanship of Commissioner Chaudhry Mukhtar Hussain to review preparations for Monsoon 2025.
The meeting aimed to review the plan formulated to deal with possible hazards during the monsoon in light of the instructions of the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Mirpur Division Chaudhry Mukhtar directed all institutions to ensure preparation to deal with potential hazards during the monsoon season, ordering to prioritize the safety of citizens and take measures to prevent loss of life and property.
As per details, various instructions were issued in the meeting under the Monsoon Emergency Plan 2025, which emphasised the cleaning of drains, river banks, dams, and the immediate elimination of encroachments.
The orders include the identification of alternative residences for vulnerable populations and relocating them in a timely manner, and the conversion of government schools and buildings into temporary shelters.
The commissioner also instructed to set up control rooms and emergency cells at the district and divisional levels. He further directed to ensure that Rescue 1122, the health department, the police, the highways, the fire brigade, and other institutions be ready to respond.
The Commissioner Mirpur division has also canceled the holidays of all departments for an immediate response in emergencies.
He has also instructed the concerned departments to stockpile food, clean water, and medical supplies for affected people. It was also decided to take steps to inform the public about timely warnings and precautionary measures through the media and social media.
In addition, the commissioner Chaudhry Mukhtar has ordered to inspect all machinery, equipment, electricity poles, and lines, and rectify any defects ahead of the monsoon season.
The commissioner also emphasized establishing monitoring committees at the village level, organising awareness programs in schools and colleges, and warning people living in low-lying areas in advance.
Furthermore, orders were given for the availability of boats at low-lying areas, immediate departure of relief teams, and immediate reporting to the District Disaster Management Authority Division as well as the State Disaster Management Authority, Muzaffarabad.
