ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has decided to increase tax on imported solar panels so as to promote domestically manufactured panels.
The decision to this effect has been reflected in the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. It has been decided to impose an 18% sales tax on imported solar panels.
According to the budget document, the decision has been taken to level the playing field between locally produced and imported solar panels.
Solar panel manufacturing industry
The decision has been taken to promote the solar panel manufacturing industry in the country.
Officials said that the local industry was under pressure due to cheap imports in the global market, and small and medium-sized manufacturers of solar panels in Pakistan were facing difficulties.
The government move will increase employment opportunities and reduce import dependence.
