ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Fourteen prisoners escaped from a prison van near Chakian Stop in Islamabad on Thursday, police said, adding that four inmates have been recaptured.

Police officials said that 34 prisoners were being transported to Adiala Jail when the incident occurred within the limits of Islamabad’s Sihala Police Station.

As per details, the police have recaptured four prisoners, while ten prisoners remain at large, and search operations are continuing to arrest them.

Taking notice of the incident, CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani ordered senior officers to immediately reach the spot, report, and conduct an operation, as per the statement issued by the city police.

On the instructions of the CPO, police teams were formed and are searching for the remaining accused, the statement added. He further said that the escaped suspects are accused in pending cases.

Hamdani further added that coordination is underway with the local police to search for the absconding inmates.

“According to initial investigations, there was a fierce fight between the prisoners in the van, after which the incident took place,” the CPO was quoted as saying.

Moreover, the police have said that the escaped prisoners will be arrested and action will be taken according to the law, while an investigation has also been initiated under the supervision of senior officers regarding the incident.

“Strict departmental action will be taken against those responsible,” the statement said.
