CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): WhatsApp has introduced a new night mode feature for its in-app camera interface aimed at improving image quality in low-light environments, the messaging platform’s latest beta update has revealed.

The camera interface is currently available to select Android beta testers and is expected to roll out to a wider user base in the coming weeks via the Google Play Store.

The night mode feature will ensure improved image quality in low-light environments.

The feature includes moon-shaped button at top of camera screen that becomes visible in dim lighting conditions.

According to WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp-related developments, the feature is currently available to selected Android beta testers.

Once activated by the user, the mode enhances photo clarity and brightness using software-based adjustments — such as boosting exposure and reducing image noise — without adding artificial filters.

WhatsApp’s camera app

Unlike some smartphone camera apps that automatically switch to night mode in dark conditions, WhatsApp’s version must be manually enabled, allowing users to decide when it is appropriate to use, especially in indoor or nighttime scenarios.

While the new software improves overall image quality in dark settings, it is not likely to deliver significant changes in extremely low-light conditions, where visibility is minimal.
