CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): WhatsApp has officially rolled out a new feature aimed at giving users greater control over how they handle their messages and media in both group and private chats.
Initially leaked earlier this month, ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’ is now available for all users. When enabled, Advanced Chat Privacy prevents others in a conversation from exporting chats.
The feature, when enabled, will also disable the automatic downloading of media to their devices, and restricts the use of messages in AI-powered features within WhatsApp.
However, the new feature does not put any restrictions on screenshots at the moment, a limitation the meta-owned messaging platform has yet to address.
Feature particularly beneficial for group chats
Advanced Chat Privacy is particularly beneficial for group chats where participants may not know each other personally, such as community chats, according to WhatsApp.
The feature provides users with a higher degree of security over their messages even after they are sent.
Users can activate the feature by opening a chat, tap on the chat name at the top, and find the Advanced Chat Privacy option within the settings.
The users will have to enable the feature for each chat, as it does not apply across all conversations.
