NEW YORK (Kashmir English): WhatsApp has announced new security features and changes to make users’ accounts more secure, including improved account security and a more secure login process.
The latest development comes at a time when other messaging apps are focusing on making account security easier for ordinary users.
Fraud and unauthorized access attempts to accounts have also become more sophisticated over the past few years.
WhatsApp’s 2-step verification already provides additional account protection through a 6-digit secret code.
Under this system, even if an attacker gets a user’s temporary verification code, an additional security step is required to access the account.
However, users do not have the option to have a stronger password containing letters, numbers, and special characters instead of a 6-digit secret code.
Passkeys will also play an important role in the new security features. This approach will reduce users’ reliance on traditional combinations of names and passwords, which can be stolen through fraud.
Logging in with passkeys will make it more difficult for someone else to remotely access a user’s account.
Android users will now also be shown more information when they receive calls from people who are not in their contact list. For example, the user will be able to see whether the caller is from another country.
In addition, both iPhone and Android users will be able to use stronger security systems to protect their accounts from fraud using passkeys.
These changes introduced by WhatsApp can help protect users’ accounts from unauthorized access, phishing, and other online threats.
