Weather update: Heavy rain, snowfall expected across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Meteorological Department has predicted two spells of rain in northern areas, including Azad Kashmir, ending the dry cold wave in the country.

According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall is likely in Murree, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan from today to December 15, after which a new series of westerly winds will enter on December 19.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bunner), Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), and Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, and Haveli) will experience sporadic light to moderate rain and snowfall over the hills from December 13 to December 15.

Only drizzle is expected in the Twin Cities, and the cold weather is likely to increase further in different areas until December 21, which may lead to a drop in temperature to 5 degrees.

On the other hand, Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Irfan Virk, said that there will be rain and light snowfall in the areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan.

The day temperature may drop to 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in some areas, and there will not be much change in the night temperature.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in the federal capital, Islamabad may drop to zero degrees Celsius in late December and early January.
