ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A severe cold wave continues across the country, while a powerful spell of heavy snowfall has been predicted for today and tomorrow, making the weather extremely cold.
Tourists have been specifically advised to avoid traveling to the mountainous areas as the snowfall has severely affected electricity and internet facilities, and the people living there are facing severe difficulties.
According to the Meteorological Department, a new and powerful weather system bringing snowfall and rain is likely to enter the country today. The Meteorological Department says that another series of westerly winds will enter today, as a result of which a new series of rains and snowfall will start from tonight.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are expected in Azad Kashmir, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under this new system. Similarly, rain and snowfall has also been predicted in many areas of Punjab including Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore, while rain may also occur in several areas of Sindh during January 25-26.
On the other hand, more rain and snowfall has been predicted in Balochistan from tonight to January 27. According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall will be expected in different areas during this period.
Moderate rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Quetta, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Chagai, Taftan, Nokundi, Dalbandin, Panjgur, Kalat, Washak, Sorab, Zhob, Mastung, Kharan, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Loralai, Musakhel and Awaran.
Similarly, heavy rain may occur at some places in Jiwani, Pasni, Khuzdar, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur and Kech, while light rain is expected in Kachhi, Sibi, Ziarat, Harnai, Daki, Loralai and Lasbela.
The Meteorological Department says that snowfall is possible in Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Harmazai, Khanozai, and Kan Mehtarzai, while light to moderate snowfall and strong winds are likely in Muslim Bagh, Loi Band, Qila Abdullah, Gulistan, and Dobandi.
Due to heavy rains, there is a possibility of flood situation in urban rivers and hilly areas in Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Awaran, Chagai and Kech. In view of this possible situation, the Meteorological Department has issued instructions to the local administration and relevant institutions to complete necessary safety measures.
