MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall across various parts of Azad Kashmir tonight and on January 23, while heavy snowfall is expected in the upper and hilly regions.
According to the SDMA, the expected weather conditions pose a high risk of landslides and avalanches in mountainous areas, which may lead to road blockages, travel difficulties, and disruptions in power and communication systems.
In view of the situation, the SDMA has urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures. The authority advised both urban and rural populations to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, streams, mountain slopes, and other unsafe areas.
The Authority advises the public to take the following precautionary measures:
- Urban and rural populations should avoid unnecessary movement near rivers, streams, mountain slopes, and unsafe places.
- Residents and tourists in the upper areas should avoid unnecessary travel.
- Travel at night should be avoided in view of the risk of landslides and heavy snowfall.
- While traveling in vehicles, carry appropriate protective equipment, warm clothes, and emergency kits.
- In any emergency, immediately contact the local administration, district administration, Rescue 1122 or SDMA control room.
