ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory and warned various authorities to make arrangements to ensure full preparedness well in time before the onset of an expected cold wave and wet spell throughout Pakistan.

The NDMA said a westerly weather system is likely to enter western parts of the country from December 29, which will bring rain and snowfall from tonight to January 2.

It is forecasted that the system will affect most of the upper and central regions on December 31 and prevail in the upper areas until January 2 morning.

Heavy snowfall may start in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galiyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli, which may block roads and lead to slippery conditions, according to the warning issued by the authority.

It also warned about the risk of landslides and avalanches in the hilly areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The NDMA asked tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to high-altitude and vulnerable areas. It also predicted foggy conditions during the wet spell in central and southern Punjab and Sindh.
