SAMAHNI (Kashmir English): Three water filtration plants installed by the Azad Kashmir government in Samahni Sub-Division have become inactive, leaving the local population without access to clean drinking water.
The plants built using public taxes under AJK govt’s Clean Water Project have fallen victim to rampant corruption and mismanagement.
Due to the inactive operation, the situation is dire in the area as tanks have gone missing, pipes supplying water to the plants have been stolen, and operators are drawing salaries while doing nothing.
This gross negligence has resulted in the waste of state treasury funds, which were meant to benefit the public.
Two of the filtration plants, located in the Samahni and Union Council Dab Sandoha, have been inactive for years, while the third plant, established on the premises of Inter College, has had its pipes stolen.
Due to the inactivity and inefficiency of the three drinking water plants, the local community is outraged. Public and social circles have demanded the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and the concerned secretary to take immediate action to bring those responsible to justice and revive the projects.
This incident highlights the urgent need for accountability and transparency in government projects, ensuring that public funds are utilized efficiently and effectively to benefit the people.
