ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): For the last few days, a video ‘Lollipop to Robber’ has been going viral on social media platforms featuring a little girl’s act of kindness, melting the hearts of the robbers.
Through a deep dive of the internet using different frames from what was claimed to be CCTV footage, that such a viral video of a young girl offering her lollipop to a robber is not real.
According to the information, the video that began to circulate in WhatsApp groups on Sunday evening went on to garner tens of millions of views as it was reshared and aired by leading mainstream media outlets.
The undated video, with fake timestamps amongst other digital prints, to make it look more like CCTV footage, showed a robber who entered a store at an undisclosed location. It then showed him attacking the shopkeeper and forcing him at gunpoint to pay up.

In the video, when the robber was about to get out, a little girl, whom the shopkeeper claims to be his minor daughter, could be seen offering her lollipop to the masked man. This causes the robber to return the shopkeeper’s valuables and lovingly pat the girl on her head before leaving the shop empty-handed.
But as the video went viral on social media, it left the netizens divided over its authenticity. A few called it scripted, while hundreds of thousands of others lauded the “kind-heartedness” of the robber who, according to social media users, “seemed to have been forced into a life of crime.”
Amid conflicting claims, The Current reverse-searched the purported CCTV footage using different frames and found that the video was actually fake.
According to the details, the video was produced by a YouTube channel called Kamran Team Official that has more than 80,000 subscribers. The channel has at least 172 videos, most of which are scripted or edited CCTV videos, from humorous to social messaging.
While most videos on this channel have hundreds of thousands of views, several have gained views upwards of a whopping five million.
With an in-depth analysis of the channel’s content, The Current also found that the store from the robbery video had appeared multiple times in a number of different videos, as had the actors and the toy gun.
