ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tax values for smartphones have been updated after a recent change in customs values by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
This will directly impact importers who import old and used phones into Pakistan, which means that the end consumer will not notice any changes in the PTA tax value when purchasing our personal devices for PTA approval.
However, this change does bring cheaper used phones to Pakistan for brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Google.
The new tax has impacted the values for the iPhone 14 series in Pakistan.
New PTA tax values for the iPhone 14 lineup
The PTA tax value for an iPhone 14 is now Rs. 24,584 ($210 custom value) according to the revised figures by the FBR.
Adding this to the normal non-PTA used iPhone 14 price, which is normally around Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 120,000, gives a final retail price for a PTA-approved iPhone 14 at the new rates of around Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 150,000.
The used iPhone 14 Pro without PTA approval normally sells for around Rs. 120,000 to Rs. 140,000. Adding the new PTA tax value of Rs. 28,616 ($290 custom value) gives a final retail price of around Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 170,000, with a bit of margin.
The used iPhone 14 Pro Max without PTA approval is currently selling in the market for around Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 170,000. Adding the new PTA tax value of Rs. 39,944, based on a $360 custom value, gives a final retail price of around Rs. 200,000 and up.
