ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The ICC Champions Trophy has witnessed wonderful performances, but over the years, some players have also set unwanted records.
Shane Watson of Australia played 15 innings in Champions Trophy editions and also set an unwanted record as he was dismissed without scoring four times, the most by any player in the tournament’s history.
The Australia’s former all-rounder holds the record of scoring the most ducks in the tournament’s history.
Bangladesh’s former captain Habibul Bashar follows with three ducks in just five innings. New Zealand’s Nathan Astle also recorded three ducks but in 15 innings, while Pakistan’s former skipper Shoaib Malik had three ducks in 18 innings.
Legendary all-rounder of Sri Lanka, Sanath Jayasuriya also faced a similar fate, with three ducks in 20 innings.
Most Ducks in Champions Trophy history
Shane Watson of Australia – 4 ducks
Habibul Bashar of Bangladesh – 3 ducks
Nathan Astle of New Zealand – 3 ducks
Shoaib Malik of Pakistan – 3 ducks
Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka – 3 ducks
While these players have made significant contributions to their sides, these ‘record performances’ remain an unfortunate footnote in their Champions Trophy careers.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is going to start with a Pakistan vs New Zealand match at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 19.
The hosts will face the Black Caps in Group A. Runner-up from 2017 edition and two-time title winners, India, will begin their campaign in Dubai against Bangladesh on February 20.
The format of the tournament is the same as it in 2006 with eight teams introduced in the fray.
All eight teams are put into two groups of four, with each team playing once against every other team in the group. The top-two sides from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will see eight teams competing for the grand prize of a whopping $2.24 million (USD). The runners-up will receive $1.12 million, while each losing semi-finalist will take home $560,000.
