MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a recent development, the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) students have called off their protest call after the district and university administrations agreed to meet their demands.

This development comes after a delegation of the University administration and students were invited to the Office of the Chancellor to discuss key issues related to the examination system.

During the meeting, the delegation and the Vice Chancellor discussed the key demands of the students and agreed to take action accordingly.

The key demands included that the exams which could not be held due to strikes in the previous days will be re-held and all students will be allowed to appear in the examinations.

The University Administration has also decided to give fee concessions to students. Students with fees up to Rs. 5,000 will have their fees paid until the end of the examinations; those who have fees exceeding Rs. 5,000 will have their fee adjustments in the next semester. Special consideration will be given to deserving students.

Students also demanded transparent examination procedures to ensure transparency and fairness of the examination procedures.

The University Administration has decided to formalize a transparent and legal procedure for re-conducting re-checking exams.

Additionally, the University Administration has also decided to provide justice to students who were expelled from the university.

The Vice-Chancellor will ensure that trials are conducted by the law, and written notices will be provided for cases that may be dismissed.

To ensure that students are not unfairly penalized for their involvement in the recent incidents, the University Administration has decided that no historical or disciplinary action will be taken against any student on the grounds of the incidents that took place during the strike.

Earlier, Students of the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) warned to close all educational institutions across Azad Kashmir from Monday if their demands were not met.

Students announced the ‘charter of demands’ after a violent clash between students and police in Muzaffarabad, which led to the arrest and injury of several students.
