WASHINGTON, D.C. (Kashmir English): Two members of the National Guard were reportedly injured in a shooting near the White House here, world media reported on Wednesday.
Gunfire was reported in the afternoon in downtown Washington, D.C. The crime scene has been secured, and at least one suspect has been taken into custody, according to local police.
National Guard members in critical condition
World media reported quoting sources that the two National Guard members were in critical condition, and the suspect was also shot.
The White House is monitoring the situation, while President Donald Trump has been briefed, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. The White House has been put on lockdown as a result.
Responding to the incident in a Truth Social post, President Trump said: “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price”.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also said her agency is working with law enforcement to gather more information. “Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.,” she wrote on X.
