BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Two Mpox (Monkeypox) cases have been reported in Samahni Tehsil of Bhimber district, prompting authorities to take emergency measures.

As per details, the man, hailing from the Bundi village of Samahni, was diagnosed with the monekety after he returned from Saudi Arabia. The virus also affected the individual’s wife.

According to the Health Department spokesperson, District Health Officer (DHO) Bhimber, Dr. Iram Batool has ordered emergency measures in the district and imposed a micro-lockdown in the affected area with the cooperation of the local administration.

The health department has also established a special ward in Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Samahni where such cases will be quarantined.

DHO Bhimber said that random tests would be conducted in the affected area to prevent Mpox and no effort will be spared in the treatment of the affected people. “All emergency measures have been taken to ensure the implementation of quarantine SOPs for monkeypox patients,” Dr. Iram Batool said.

The health official appealed to the public to immediately consult a doctor if they have information about any patient related to this disease in the vicinity.

Earlier, a patient admitted to Jinnah Hospital in Karachi was diagnosed with monkeypox. The results confirmed the presence of the virus, making it the first verified case in the province.

The 28-year-old patient, a resident of Shah Latif Town, Karachi, has been placed in an isolation ward, and strict precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent further spread of the virus.
