ANKARA: Turkiye has decided to attend the U.S. President Donald Trump’s international “Board of Peace” initiative on Gaza, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affaris confirmed on Wednesday.

The statement said that Türkiye Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent the Turkish president at the “Board of Peace” meeting on Thursday.

“Hakan Fidan will visit Switzerland on 22 January 2026 to participate in the signing ceremony of the Board of Peace Charter, on behalf of President Erdoğan,” the statement added.

Trump had sent an invitation to President Erdogan to become a member of the board.

Pakistan has also accepted the invitation extended by US President Trump to join the Board of Peace (BoP) on Gaza, the Foreign Office (FO) said.

On January 18, the FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that Donald Trump has officially invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend the ‘Board of Peace on Gaza‘, an international transitional body formed to deliberate on Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Islamabad’s decision to join the peace board is part of its ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan under the framework of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, the statement read.

Pakistan expresses the “hope that with the creation of this framework, concrete steps will be taken towards the implementation of a permanent ceasefire, further scaling up of humanitarian aid for the Palestinians, as well as reconstruction of Gaza.”

Trump is due to preside over a ceremony marking the “Board of Peace” on Thursday at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
