MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and prominent diplomat Sardar Masood Khan has said that US President Donald Trump’s offer of mediation on the Kashmir issue is a big diplomatic success of Pakistan.
He said the echo of the success was heard most in New Delhi.
In an interview with a private TV channel, Sardar Masood Khan said that India has always said that the Kashmir issue is between two countries, India and Pakistan, and no third power, including the United Nations, can have any intervention.
Pakistan has always emphasized the need to resolve this issue as per the United Nations resolutions or the mediation of a third party.
However, India has never accepted this stance of United Nations intervention.
Khan said that the recent statement of the US President has three parts, the first part indicates diplomacy, the second part is President Trump’s concern for the people of South Asia, and the third part is an indication of alleviating the economic hardships of the people of this region by increasing trade with India and Pakistan.
Kashmir again on the radar
He said the Kashmir issue had been on the back burner but after the recent Indo-Pak war, Kashmir has again become prominent on the radar of international politics.
He said had the war between India and Pakistan prolonged, millions of people would have been killed, but the immediate intervention of the United States and several other countries has temporarily averted this danger.
The former AJK president said that the ceasefire and subsequent meaningful and fruitful talks for resolving the issues depend on India’s attitude.
