PESHAWAR (Kashmir English): In view of the heavy fog caused by air pollution, the motorway authorities have closed the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway M11 and the Peshawar Motorway M1 up to Rashakai for all types of traffic.
A Motorway Police spokesperson said that this decision was taken to protect the lives and property of the public so that possible accidents can be avoided promptly.
The spokesperson clarified that ‘Driving in fog becomes very dangerous due to extremely low visibility, hence the closure of the motorway was necessary.’ Citizens have been directed to avoid unnecessary travel, and if travel is unavoidable, ensure the use of vehicle fog lights.
According to the website of the Punjab Environment Department, the air pollution situation in various cities of the province is alarming. The air pollution level in Gujranwala was recorded at 349, in Rahim Yar Khan at 321, and in Multan at 315 particulate matter meters. According to experts, this high level not only causes an increase in fog but is also harmful to the health of citizens.
The Motorway Police warned citizens that lane violations in fog can cause fatal accidents, so strictly follow lane discipline. The spokesperson added that the situation is being continuously reviewed on all sections of the motorway and traffic will be restored as soon as the weather improves. Citizens have been asked to get the latest information on the Motorway Helpline 130 or the relevant app before traveling.
