SAMAHNI (Kashmir English): In a dramatic turn of events, notorious tractor thief Shafiq was rearrested by the public on Tuesday just 35 hours after he escaped from Samahni police custody.
According to the police, the accused Muhammad Shafiq, hailing from Faisalabad, broke the prison and escaped from the custody of the police in Bhimber’s Samahni Tehsil. He was arrested in the police station in case number 120/24 under crimes 3811-APC.
However, the next day, the thief was recaptured by Javed Akhtar, a journalist from Islamgarh, Mirpur. Akhtar cleverly gave the accused a lift in his car and caught him among the crowd in the market.
Subsequently, he was handed over to the police station personnel. Later, DSP District Bhimber Khawaja Abdul Qayyum also reached the police station.
According to the police, the accused has been arrested with the cooperation of the public from Peer Gali areaon Tuesday morning. The Bhimber Police also appreciated the efforts of journalist Javed Akhtar Sahib in luring and helping the arrest of the absconder.
The Bhimber Police spokesperson said that, following the inquiry, DSP Khwaja Abdul Qayyum suspended SHO Inspector Rizwan Malik and Additional SHO Inspector Ammar Dar from the service due to negligence.
Furthermore, the on-duty officials, including Muhammad Rauf, Muhammad Sher Bab, and Constable Muhammad Tariq, were also suspended, and a case has been registered against them for misbehavior and negligence in the work of the government and police post.
In addition to that, Mehtab Aslam Sub-Inspector has been appointed as SHO, Iftikhar Hussain Shah Sub-Inspector as Additional SHO, Yasir Ali Head Constable as Muharrar and Muhammad Suleman SG as Naib Muharrar Police Station Post.
DSP Bhimber has also been given the task of arresting the absconding accused, the press release read.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhimber District said that strict inquiry and disciplinary action will be taken against the police officers who show negligence in their duties.
