ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A strong earthquake of magnitude 5.6 jolted Islamabad, and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, creating panic among residents as people rushed out of homes and offices reciting prayers.
Initial reports say the quake was also felt in Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and nearby districts, including Swat, Peshawar, and Chitral.
According to the data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the depth of the earthquake was 114 Km, whereas the epicenter was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been confirmed so far, while authorities are monitoring the situation.
Earlier on Saturday, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Islamabad, Attock, and Swabi, as well as other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing panic among citizens.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) National Seismic Monitoring Center, the earthquake occurred at 9:28 am, and its intensity was recorded as 4.4 on the Richter scale.
According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was 11 kilometers northeast of Burhan, while its depth was recorded as 14 kilometers.
According to initial reports, no loss of life or property was reported due to the earthquake; however, a large number of citizens came out of their homes reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.
